The National Minister for Gender, Child and Social Welfare re-laid Thursday morning the foundation stone for the Rejaf Education Centre for the Blind and Deaf.

Agnes Kwaje Lasuba said the foundation stone was laid for the second time since 1982 because South Sudan was now an independent country and the school was destroyed during the war, Bakhita Radio reported.

She said impaired children had the right to education because the Transitional Constitution supports the right to go to school to every citizen.

The minister explained that the Rejaf Education Centre for the Blind and Deaf should accommodate 350 children from the ten states of South Sudan who are currently housed in very difficult situations in Juba.

Ms Kwaje said the school was to be completed in 2011 but they are short of three-million pounds to complete the project.

She said the ministry is working hard to complete the school so that the blind and the deaf are accommodated in Rejaf.
