Students enrolling for final exams at Rumbek National Secondary School on Monday stormed the office of the Headmaster complaining that the fees charged by the administration were too expensive.

Arts section student Gum Kumah told Good News Radio that the students were told to pay 120 pounds but two days ago the price went to 200 pounds.

Mr. Kumah said the students are confused and feel cheated because other States are charging 150 pounds only.

He appealed to the school administration to maintain the 120 pounds and speed up the registration process for the exams.

Headmaster Abel Manyuon Juk said he received orders from the State Ministry of Education to add 100 pounds to the original charge from the National Ministry of Education.

State Education Director General Agolder Mathok defended the decision arguing that the extra fee is to facilitate transportation and security of examination papers to faraway centres.

State Education Minister Athian Majak Malou told candidates to remain calm promising to solve the issue with the concerned authorities.

There are only nine days left for over 600 students waiting to register for this year’s national school leaving examinations.
