ICRC, the International Committee of the Red Cross, on Monday repatriated five South Sudanese Prisoners of War from Khartoum to Juba.

An ICRC delegate accompanied the five men to Juba, where they were handed over to South Sudanese authorities.

Jean-Christophe Sandoz, who heads the ICRC delegation in Sudan, said the Red Cross was glad that the five men were able to return to their country.

He added that the humanitarian agency would offer logistical support for such repatriations in future should there be a need for it.

The Sudanese authorities approached the ICRC to facilitate the return home of the ex-prisoners.

In April 2012, the Red Cross helped repatriate 13 Sudanese ex-prisoners of war after the South Sudanese authorities released them.

In September, it helped repatriate 19 South Sudanese prisoners of war released by Sudan.
