Sudanese staff at Mapuordit Hospital, in Lakes State, have taken some days off to fulfil their duty of voting in the various polling stations in Yirol West County, but expatriate personnel manage to run the health institution.
Mr. Maruf Barnabas is a Clinical Officer at Mapuordit Hospital.In a letter to Good News Radio, Mr. Maruf said that despite the absence of Sudanese staff at the hospital, the expatriate staff have kept the hospital running.
Some patients at the hospital were also able to vote.
Mr. Maruf said that the hospital administration encouraged the in-patients who could move to exercise their right to vote.
Mr. Maruf also said that the patients who went to vote wished that their vote would eventually bring about better health services in Southern Sudan.
Mary Immaculate Mapuordit Hospital belongs to the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek and it is run by the Comboni Missionaries.
