The World Bank is working to strengthen professionalism among South Sudanese journalists.

Communication Specialist Albino Okeny Olak said the World Bank wanted to make data the central instrument to convince people in South Sudan.

Mr Okeny was talking to journalists on Friday after a three-day training on “Media as an instrument of transparency and accountability” in Juba.

He said the parliament and the media played similar roles of encouraging transparency which could be popularized only by the media.

Mr Okeny said the workshop was an introduction for many other journalists’ trainings ahead.

He announced that the Bank learned the needs of media houses in South Sudan and with other development partners is preparing a long term training programme for South Sudanese journalists.

The three-day training brought together about 30 journalists from Juba and Torit.
