The office of Immigration, Passport and Nationality in Western Bahr El-Ghazal state has started issuing nationality identity documents to a number of applicants since January.

Five hundred successful applicants are receiving their documents, Voice of Hope reported.

John Madut, director for Immigration, passport and Nationality in Wau, revealed that 106 Nationality applications are missing because the photographs were not properly printed by the concerned authority in Juba.

Mr Madut explained that the technical problem was rectified and that the process can now run without further ado.

He called on the applicants whose photographs got spoiled to turn up for a second session, adding that the photos will be taken free of charge.

Citizens in Western Bahr El Ghazal have voiced complaints over too much strictness in the process, especially for those whose names could not easily be traced to any tribe in South Sudan.

Mr Madut said he was sorry for that, saying that the name of the applicants cannot be taken as a serious requirement to qualify for the nationality documents.

Another 900 applicants are expected to have soon their nationality documents processed.
