The monthly publication of Consumer Prices Indexes by the National Bureau of Statistics reveals that prices in Wau are cheaper than in Juba and Malakal.
Director of Economic Statistic David Chan Thiang explained to CRN that prices stay low in Wau because more goods were flowing in from the north through Aweil, Warwar and Fentur.He added that another reason was the market reaction to speculations that the oil will be flowing following the signing of the Cooperation Agreements in Addis Ababa last September.
He said traders released their hoarded goods prompting a drop in prices in Wau.
Mr Chan added the Khartoum is allowing goods into South Sudan because it does not have other trading partners in the region.
He said if the goods continue to come from Sudan the annual inflation in South Sudan will fall to one digit.
The director warned that prices might go up in February because traders and the market react to the way the negotiations between South Sudan and Sudan are progressing.
