The general elections kicked off this morning with a slow but smooth start without incidents and difficulties at polling stations were already solved by mid-day.

SCR News phoned six of its stations over southern Sudan and their reports were similar.

Many voting stations opened late due to technical problems, or lack of polling materials.

There was some confusion over names missing in the voters register and lack of clear indication about who was voting where.

Voters were praised for their patience and civic attitude and the turn out was considered very good for the first day.
