The head of ECS, the Episcopal Church of the Sudan, on Wednesday welcomed the government’s reconciliation initiative to consolidate peace across the country.
One week ago, the council of ministers approved an initiative titled Journey of Healing for National Reconciliation of South Sudan.Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul told CRN that the Church welcomed the healing initiative though it came late because it should have happened soon after the Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed eight years ago.
He said the process of reconciliation was necessary to overcome trauma and allow the nation to move forward.
Dr Deng explained that the Church was not invited to take part in the healing journey but its members are also citizens and the door remained open to join in government-led process if or when asked.
The ECS Primate said the government was responsible for all citizens, including the Church, and she would join the reconciliation process one way or another.
