The appointment of caretaker governor Matur Chut Dhuol should restore stability in Lakes State because the ex-army general speaks the language of security well and knows the nature of conflicts in the State.
Lawyer and activist Gar Adel Gar told Good News Radio over the phone that Mr Chut was the architect behind the formation of Gelweng, a unit of armed youth to guard cattle and civilians against Khartoum’s mercenaries.He said Mr Chut appointment addressed the urgent need to stop escalating insecurity in Lakes State.
Some analysts accused Mr Chut of supporting sectional conflicts in Rumbek East County not long ago.
Dr Gar dismissed the allegations as political propaganda.
A Security Maintenance Bill tabled in the State Assembly on Wednesday was adjourned awaiting input from the new caretaker governor.
