Lainya County Court in Central Equatoria state burned more than 265 kilograms of hashish known locally as opium.

Criminal investigator Stephen Lukadi Laila Lukadi said 18 people were arrested, 14 with hashish and four with marungi, Radio Easter reported.

He blamed the absence of road blocks in the county that have led to 18 reported cases of drugs traffic since December last year.

Mr Lukadi revealed that County Commissioner Huda Michael Laila issued an order for temporary check points in the county to reduce drugs trafficking.

He appealed to the local government to approve permanent check points in the county in order to reduce crimes and consumption of drugs.

Ajac Tong Dut, one of the detained people, explained that they were doing the business due to small salary been paid to them by the government.

Lainya County Paramount Chief Enosa Laky Yona said the victims were fined 500 Pounds and three years of prison.

Their motorcycles were confiscated.
