The President of the Republic issued six presidential decrees on Monday relieving 35 senior SPLA officers from active service and promoting another nine.
Salva Kiir Mayardit relieved six deputy chiefs of general staff from their posts: lieutenant generals Obuto Mamur Mete, Biar Atem Ajang, Pieng Deng Kuol, Ayuel Alier Jongroor, Kuol Deim Kuol, and Wilson Deng Kuoirot.The six lieutenant generals with another five major generals remain in a reserve list until they are reassigned to other duties.
President Kiir also promoted nine major generals into the rank of lieutenant generals: Thomas Cirilo Swaka, James Ajongo Mawut, Malek Rueben Riak, Malual Ayom Dor, Mangar Buog Aluenge, Chol Thon Balok, Gabriel Jok Riak, John Gony Biliu and Charles Lam Chol.
Six of the new Lieutenant Generals were appointed deputy chiefs of general staff while the other three are the new commanders to Sector One in Wau, Sector Two in Malakal and Sector Three in Torit.
