Police killed one thief and arrested others during an attempted break-in to rob shops in Wau Main Market on Friday morning.

Western Bahr El Ghazal Acting Police Commissioner, Albino Othou Mariano, told the press on Friday morning that an unknown number of robbers stole commodities from Wau Main Market but police officers managed to abort the robbery, Voice of Hope reported.

He added that some of the robbers ran away but the police managed to arrest them in the morning and that they were under investigation.

Mr Othou revealed the robbers were civilians and their detention takes all police forces off the hook, because they were often accused of collaborating with gangs and robbers in police uniform.

He reaffirmed the Police’s commitment to protect properties and safeguard lives of civilians, describing the incident as shameful.

Mr Othou said Wau was stable and peaceful, despite the curfew imposed by the state government since December,

He urged citizens to keep the curfew.
