Western Bahr El Ghazal State Ministry of Youth, Sport and Social Development and UNICEF have conducted a workshop discussing the future of street children in Wau.
The workshop came after both partners carried out assessments on streets children, Voice of Hope reported.The workshop aimed at finding ways to give street children a good life and let them become future leaders in their community.
Child Protection Specialist Joyce Mutiso appreciated the ministry and organizations cooperation for helping street children to return to normal family life.
She stressed that child protection is not only the responsibility of UN and NGOs, but that team work is a good sign of cooperation.
Ms Mutiso urged the participants to come out with resolutions that can help the street children by creating positive conditions to encourage them to return to their families.
Nyar Anyar, state Minister of Youth, Sport and Social Development, appreciated UNICEF’s great role in child protection and changing the name from street children to children living and working on street.
He encouraged all partners engaged in child protection and child rights to share ideas which can help children on street.
Mr Anyar said helping children on the streets is a collective responsibility because children need more help from the community through improving living standards of families to prevent children drop out.
