WAU GOES ON THE STREETS, CONDEMNS ATTACK

Citizens of Wau, Western Bahr El Ghazal, on Monday staged a peaceful procession condemning the attacks on South Sudan, especially the recent one in Ketket, Raja County, where 14 South Sudanese women were abducted by Sudan government militias.

They demanded a UN’s investigation into the matter, Voice of Hope reported.

The procession which drew many citizens and government employees started from Wau Freedom Square and reached the State Secretariat.

Division Five Commander, Chol Thon Ballok, said Sudanese Armed Forces backed by nomadic militia tribes attacked Ketket, Aab, and Jogo.

SPLA forces suffered heavy casualties.

He revealed that 14 women and children were kidnapped during the attack.

Mr Thon said the SPLA was ready and commitment to repulse any attack and to defend the nation.

Governor Rizik Zachariah Hassan urged the citizens to unite internally in order to stand strong before the enemy.

He called upon UN, mediators and observers of Addis Ababa talks to finalize the border demarcation because South Sudan has lost trust on Sudan.

UNMISS -Wau Coordinator, Winnie Babihouga, extended her condolences to the victims of the attack, disclosing that UNISFA forces will visit the attacked areas and assess the situation.

She appealed to the state government to facilitate the arrival of UN forces to the area in order to give a full report to the UN Security Council over the incident.

The citizens urged humanitarian agencies to intervene with aid in the area.

The citizens submitted a petition to UNMISS calling for urgent consideration into attacks by Sudan on the New Nation.
