The Catholic Bishops of Torit Diocese have advised Eastern Equatoria state farmers to plant crops earlier in order to get good yields.

Emeritus Paride Taban and Johnson Akio Mutek said early land preparation and crop planting were the key factors and major boost to farmers, Radio Emmanuel reported.

Bishop Taban said when he was a priest in Loa and Palotaka his success depended on early planting of crops.

He called on the state ministry of agriculture extension workers to advise farmers on good methods of cultivation.

Bishop Akio observed that farmers were always delayed by traditional beliefs that rainmakers and kings had to bless the land before planting seeds.

The two bishops were talking during an agriculture program on Saturday.
