The youth of Greater Yirol have joyfully welcomed the ordination of one of their seminarians as the first deacon from the area.

John Malou Beny was ordained a deacon on Sunday in the presence of hundreds of Christians, Good News Radio reported.

Joseph Malou Luiny, an ex-seminarian and colleague of the new deacon, expressed happiness that John Malou managed to answer the call to pastoral service.

Mr Luiny added that in their capacity as lay people they would always support the new deacon.

Majier Isaac, another ex-seminarian from Yirol, said he was excited by the fact that one of his colleagues became a deacon, making history as the first deacon of Yirol.

Admin Marin Thon, a close relative of the new deacon, said the family offered John Malou to serve the people of God in the Catholic Church.

He added that Deacon Malou showed determination in his vocation revealing that he had a stable job prior to joining the seminary but he left money to serve God.

On Palm Sunday, Deacon Malou will be ordained a priest among his own people at the Holy Cross Church Yirol.
