Lakes State Ministry of Labour and Public Service issued a circular on Tuesday directing various government institutions to pay their staff monthly according to the number of days they worked.

Director General and Caretaker Minister in the Labour Ministry Abraham Makur Mangok told Good News Radio that all state employees should be paid only for the days they reported for work, beginning in January 2013.

He urged workers still enjoying their Christmas and New Year break that they would not be paid if they didn’t resume work.

The circular followed an order issued by the Labour Ministry last June to cut five percent of the salary of absent employees.

Mr Makur said Lakes State authorities decided to supplement the order with an attendance sheet where employees indicate the reason for absence.

He added that the new policy does not tolerate employees who are absent without leave.

The measures taken by Lakes State Government aim at controlling public servants and their work in order to curb corruption.
