A Radio Miraya correspondent in Wau was arrested and detained for one hour and half hours on Tuesday without charges and freed without any justification.

George Liviyo told CRN over the phone that he was arrested by two security personnel on a motorbike while he went to get an airtime from a shop.

He explained that he was taken to CID office in Wau and told to sit down although he was not allowed to get into the area of the office.

Mr Liviyo explained that he was not beaten, harassed or questioned.

He was released at 9:30 PM.

He said the following day he reported to the UNMISS security officers in Wau and Juba what happened and he was advised not to return to the CID office.

Mr Liviyo said the UN sent one national security officer to meet the CID personnel and they denied having arrested him.

CID personnel promised they would find out who arrested the Miraya journalist.

The authorities arrested a number of journalists and MPs last Tuesday following protests and ethnic clashes last month in Wau. Two journalists working for the public media were still in prison today.
