The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union said in a statement she was deeply encouraged by the summit meeting between the presidents of South Sudan and Sudan that started on Friday in Addis Ababa.

Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma expressed the hope that the summit would enable Salva Kiir Mayardit and Omar al Bashir to agree on the best means and ways of overcoming the challenges encountered in the implementation of the cooperation agreements signed on September 27.

She urged the two presidents to find solutions to the pending issues of the Abyei Area and the borders.

Ms Dlamini-Zuma recalled that the AU Peace and Security Council encouraged the two presidents to remove bottlenecks on all pending issues.
