Eastern Equatoria should be food secure in the year 2014 through cultivation.
Eastern Equatoria Deputy Governor Jerome Gama Surur said the State Government would make efforts to ensure a conducive farming environment to all the citizens, Radio Emmanuel reported.He added that the state government wanted to answer positively to President Salva Kiir’s appeal for food security in South Sudan.
Mr Gama said the Government will train agricultural trainers to send them to teach other farmers in the State.
He disclosed that the Government will introduce oxen and ploughs to increase the area of cultivation in the state.
Mr Gama admitted that most farmers could not access markets to sell their produce due to poor road networks.
He confirmed plans to open new roads in Eastern Equatoria to connect farmers with markets.
