SIM card registration for subscribers from all mobile networks has been extended for another one full month until January 31.
Deputy Minister for Telecommunications and Postal Services Beatrice Khamisa Wani told Bakhita Radio that her ministry decided to extend the registration period due to a low turnout across the country.She said the registration centres were not enough, there were logistic difficulties and people had to travel long distances.
Ms Khamisa urged all citizens to register their SIM cards for their own safety and protection during January.
She called on the public not to buy activated new SIM cards but register them before they are usable.
The extension benefits all mobile owners who did not have an opportunity to register their SIM cards, including those living in the rural areas.
