The Presidents of South Sudan and Sudan are expected to meet on Friday in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, to try to defuse the present stalemate on the implementation of nine agreements they signed at the end of September.

SUNA, the Sudanese official news agency, said the Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn brokered the presidential summit after visiting Juba and Khartoum.

On Tuesday, Omar al Bashir said he was keen to establish good neighbour relations with South Sudan.

He added that he remained committed to implement the Cooperation Agreement signed in Addis Ababa.

Salva Kiir Mayardit said in his New Year’s message that his government would withdraw its forces from the disputed areas to allow the agreed establishment of demilitarized border corridor between both countries.
