At least three people were injured during the rampant festive shootout welcoming the New Year in Juba.

The head of Surgical Emergency Ward at Juba Teaching Hospital, Rose Joseph Odur, told CRN on Wednesday that two men and one child sought treatment for wounds from stray bullets.

She explained that the two men were brought during the night and the child in the morning of Tuesday.

Ms Odur explained that the child was hurt by a bullet that came through the roof.

The patient was admitted to the Children Surgical Ward after the bullet was removed from his leg.

Ms Odur said another three people were admitted for treatment for cuts from fights with knives.

Another patient needed treatment from burns when his house caught fire.

There was widespread shooting all over Juba at midnight of January 1 despite warns from the authorities.
