Teachers in Yei River County of Central Equatoria have expressed worries over the traditional way of getting their monthly salaries in cash and asked the state government to pay them through the banks.
One teacher told Radio Easter that the traditional system was very dangerous and robbers knew when teacher were paid putting them in danger.He asked the ministry to pay teachers through the banking system because it was safer.
County Education Director Charles Lumori confirmed that the state ministries of education and finance have not yet started paying teachers through the banking system as other states did.
Yei River County Commissioner Juma David Augustine condemned the traditional pay system and called on the line ministries to channel teachers’ salaries through the banking system in the county.
