The SPLM Chairman in Wau County, Western Bahr El Ghazal, has strongly condemned Wau’s December violence and called on the state government organs to bring the people behind the incident to book and reconcile communities.
Charles Anthony Mbrendi issued a press statement after a meeting with SPLM members in the executive and legislature bodies, Voice of Hope reported.Mr Mbrendi called those who lost their lives in violent protests related to the transfer of Wau County headquarters as martyrs.
He added that the party discussed the question “what’s after the violence in Wau?” saying that this is the greatest challenged the SPLM faces in the County.
Mr Mbrendi said the SPLM is required to re-activate its role in urban and rural areas to create coherence and to get out of the situation, urging the state government to bring to court everyone involved in the incidents.
He disclosed that the meeting established the State’s Peaceful Co-existence Committee and decided to form a forum for elders to resolve conflicts and crises.
Mr Mberendi said the SPLM-Wau faced financial difficulties.
He called on people to unity to break out the current crisis in the state.
