United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has given South Sudan Farmers Association seven million US dollars on loan to boost agriculture and increase food security in the country.

Aggrey Ezbon Idri, Chairperson of South Sudan Agricultural Producers Union told the press on Wednesday in Juba that the money is aimed at boosting agriculture as the country intends to kick out food insecurity by 2014.

He announced that the Government of the Netherlands is also carrying out similar initiative to assist South Sudan farmers to increase own food production.

Mr Ezbon said this is the first time South Sudan farmers get loan since the independence.
He said the money would help local organized farmers increase food production in the next farming season.

Mr Ezbon urged financial institutions holding the money not to restrict giving farmers the cash.
