The Chief Observer of the European Union Election Observation Mission, Veronique de Keyser said she is confused by President Bashir’s statement.
Ms. de Keyser said Bashir’s remarks do not correspond to the agreed standards which apply to international election observers, Xinhua reported.
She added that the remarks do not reflect the traditional hospitality that she enjoyed in the Arab world and in Sudan.
Ms. de Keyser recalled that the EU observers, as well as other international observers, are in Sudan at the invitation of the Sudanese authorities and to support the peace process initiated by the CPA.
She admitted that it is difficult to function smoothly in this environment, but she hoped that over the coming days the tension will disappear.
Ms, de Keyser emphasized that she is keeping the current position under careful review.
