ILLEGAL ARMS THREATEN WILDLIFE

The presence of illegal fire arms in the hands of civil population cause serious threats to wildlife.

Minister of Wildlife, Environment and Tourism, George Echom said the rate of poaching grows each day due to presence of illegal fire arms in the hands of the community.

He added that poaching has turned to be commercial means of survival of the rural population.

The minister gives account of recent arrests of poachers and people in possession of bush meat in several occasions.

Mr Echom said the matter has been referred to the police and the legal administration to be presented to the courts of law.

He added that the ministry focuses on sensitizing the community on the values of protecting animals for sustainable wildlife conservation.
