The army has killed 19 rebels and lost one soldier during a day-long battle on Monday in Pibor, Jonglei State.
Army spokesperson Philip Aguer Panyang told CRN over the phone that on Sunday 50 rebels loyal to David Yau Yau invaded the UNMISS camp in Likuangole and forced their evacuation.He said on Monday the rebels built some trenches along the river and shelled SPLA positions from 9:30 in the morning to 3:30 in the afternoon.
Colonel Aguer said that 19 rebels were found dead when the army overran their positions.
The spokesman said that one soldiers was killed in action and four wounded.
He added that the army capture two 60-milimiter mortars, two RPG7’s, six AK 47 and a number of ammunitions.
