The National Legislative Assembly has passed on Monday the Mining Bill 2012 in its third and final reading.
The head of the Energy Committee Henry Dilah Odwar presented the Bill to the House.Speaker James Wani Igga acknowledged the hard work done by the members of the Energy Committee.
He pointed out that the Bill did not deserve to take so long to be passed.
He asked all assembly committee members to work faster.
Speaker Igga said the Bill should have been passed in a three-month period instead of taking one year.
He said Uganda’s Mining Bill took four months to go through the House.
On Tuesday, MPs had in the agenda the discussion of the Cotonou Agreement.
South Sudan is an observer of the Cotonou treaty but it wants to ratify it to become full member.
The Cotounou Agreement is a partnership treaty between the European Union and 79 countries from Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific called ACP.
It regulates the EU cooperation with the ACP countries since 2000.
