The Theology section of St Paul National Major Seminary returned officially to Juba after the civil war exiled it to Khartoum in 1992.
Bishop Rudolf Deng Majak of Wau presided over the opening mass on Monday in the still to be finished chapel at the Major Seminary in Munuki.Acting Rector Todo Romeo told reporters that the official opening was postponed from October to November due to circumstances beyond the control of the administration, Bakhita Radio reported.
Fr Todo revealed that 32 theology seminarians have reported and another five were expected from Khartoum and El Obeid dioceses.
He said some bishops sent their seminarians to neighbouring countries.
Fr Todo revealed that it was important for the seminary to come back to its original place.
He said the seminary is forming future priests to serve the Church and the society in both Sudans.
The Major Seminary’s Theology Section was officially opened by Bishop Deng in the presence of seminarians, staff, priests, religious, some lay people and the Juba County Commissioner and the Presidential Advisor for Religious Affairs.
The Vatican ordered the closure of the Philosophy section for at least two years.
