REJAF RESIDENTS PROTEST AGAINST POLICE HARASSMENT

The people of Rejaf West, near Juba, are protesting against harassment from police which were deployed in the area for training.GoSS ministry of Internal Affairs was given a two-kilometer plot of land upon requisition from the people of Rejaf West to put up a police training camp.

Talking to SCR News, Rita Wasuk, a resident of Rejaf West, said the police cadets are beating people and eating fruit from their gardens.

She added that the people of Rejaf West have decided to protest against the police presence in the area.

David Modi, also from Rejaf West, said the police were supposed to be role models and protect civilians.

He added that the police trainees disappointed them when they claimed that they had purchased the plot of land given to the ministry for free.

Mr. Modi affirmed that people of Rejaf West want the police to leave the area.

Major general Jackson Elia, director of the Rejaf training centre, refused to comment.
