Road safety in South Sudan is a key concern for the United States of America.
US Ambassador to South Sudan, Susan Page, made the statement on Tuesday during the graduation of 14 Highway Traffic Police officers in Eastern Equatoria.She said the Highway Patrol Initiative focuses on the opportunities for developing effective road safety programs within South Sudan.
Ambassador Page explained that the initiative aimed at facilitating the establishment of a professional highway patrol unit in Eastern Equatoria to reduce fatalities among roads users and provide security.
The police graduates received a six-week intensive training on motorbike riding skills at low speed, controlled breaking and u-turns.
Governor Louis Lobong Lojore commended the American administration for the support and donation of motorbikes for the Highway Traffic Police in Eastern Equatoria.
He said there were many challenges ahead and appealed to the US to continue helping the state.
