Central Equatoria Teachers Professional Union has organised an assembly to discuss factors affecting teachers’ performance and propose possible solutions.
The Union brought together seven representatives from each of the six county of Terekeka, Yei River, Morobo, Kajo Keji, Lainya and Juba, Bakhita Radio reported.Union chairperson Peter Lodu said the meeting was an annual program for teachers to discuss issues affecting them and their work in the different schools of Central Equatoria.
He added that the representatives proposed solutions for their problems.
State education minister Margret Ayite said teachers were critical partners in the development of South Sudan through their work of education.
She recognized that issues of irregular pay and overcrowd schools raised by teachers.
The minister promised to build more schools and teachers’ accommodations.
Ms Ayite called on the teachers to be patient with irregular salary payment caused by the austerity budget.
She promised to take into consideration all issues that were raised by the teachers’ representatives and come up with some solutions.
