The Catholic Archdiocese of Juba has officially launched the Year of the Faith on Thursday with the celebration of All Saints Day.
Vicar General Nichola Kiri Bate told the congregation at St Theresa’s Cathedral that the date was purposely selected in order to invoke the company of all the saints in the one-year journey of grace the archdiocese started.He said the Year of the Faith was a response to the invitation of the Pope Benedict directed to all Catholics.
Fr Kiri explained that the Word of God sustains faith.
He urged the faithful to build their lives upon the values of the Gospel that are different from the values of the world.
Fr Kiri said The Year of the Faith was a time of grace in order to receive blessings from God.
He invited Catholics to grab the opportunity to be with God.
Fr Kiri announced that the Year of the Faith includes 30 different activities in the Archdiocese of Juba.
The Year of the Faith marks the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, on October 11 1962, and the twentieth anniversary of the publication of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
