The National Labour Ministry started a three-day public hearing by explaining the two pension bills tabled at the parliament last July.

Pension specialist Kenneth Lo’boka Wani told CRN that the first day of the public hearing was to explain the Pension Fund Bill and the Civil Servants Pension Fund Scheme.

Mr Lo’boka said the public hearing was a technical way of finding out whether the bills are good for present and future pensioners.

Mr Lo’boka explained that the Pension Fund Bill deals with the establishment of institutions and policies regulating pensions while the Pension Fund Scheme deals with its technical side including calculation of pensions and contributions.

Mr Lo’boka urged the lawmakers to pass both bills because pensioners have been waiting too long and they do not have other sources of income.

The first day of the public hearing registered a poor audience.
