A male teacher and a female student were shot at Juba Day Secondary School when heavily armed police and non uniformed security personnel stomped the school compound after students burnt a container with building material in the school grounds.
The students were protesting against the construction of a hospital in the school grounds.Teacher Alafi Michael was shot on his right thigh.
He told CRN that the officers stormed the compound when the students set on fire a container.
Mr Michael said the police were shooting in the air but when the students came close throwing stones they shot at them with live monitions.
He added that he felt something pricked his right thigh, his leg paralysed and he fell down.
Student Agnes Dusuman was shot on her left leg just above the knee.
She said she was in the director’s office and she did not know what was going on outside.
Ms Dusuman added that later learned that the students were fighting for their land that was sold illegally to a developer.
She said that she fell down and saw blood flowing from her leg.
Both the teacher and the student are out of danger recovering at Juba Teaching Hospital.
