GOVERNOR HOLDS STATE MPS RESPONSIBLE FOR WAU PROTEST DAMAGES

The Governor of Western Bahr El Ghazal accused Wau County MPs of rallying behind the youth against the government’s decision to move Wau County headquarters to Baggari instead of preaching peace and held them responsible for damages.

The state legislative assembly sat for an emergency meeting on Tuesday to address the fully sparked opposition to transfer Wau County headquarters to Baggari, Voice of Hope reported.

The meeting drew heads of organized forces, state ministers, advisors, members of parliament, and humanitarian agencies.

Governor Rizik Zachariah Hassan pointed out the damages caused by the protesters which included the beating of a Baggari chief.

He stated that all those who instigated the youth against the government would face the law.

Mr Zachariah called for the immediate opening of the road to Baggari.

He urged the youth to call off the opposition to the headquarters transfer.

Advisor on security Dominic Rizik said some individuals entered the government’s arms store and took some guns illegally.

He assured that all those who took guns to support the protest that would also be investigated.

MPs maintained that the Wau County headquarters transfer was never discussed in the Assembly and any decision must be taken according to the interests of the residents.

The government formed a team to investigate the protests.

It added that any MP involved in the protests shall be accountable.
