The Government in Western Bahr El-Ghazal accused Wau youths to violate both state and national constitutions by opposing the transfer of Wau County headquarters to Baggari.
This came after Wau County Youth submitted a memo last week calling on the state government to reverse the decision to transfer Wau County headquarters.In a meeting with the state ministers on Monday, Governor Rizik Zachariah Hassan quoted Article 134 of the Local Government Act which states that county and payam are to be located in the rural areas while towns are administered by city councils or municipalities.
He said the Wau County headquarters transfer was constitutional and it could not be reversed.
Some state members of parliament claimed that the decision to transfer the County and creae of Wau municipality did not pass through the parliament.
State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Peter Opio said the State Constitution was passed unanimously.
He added that the articles regarding Municipality and County transfer to the rural areas were clearly spelled in the state Constitution and the MPs should be responsible for what they have passed.
State Minister for Local Government Taban Peter Biajo accused the youth of trying to derail the government at the instigation of some MPs.
Governor Zachariah commissioned all state ministers and trade union heads to enlighten the employees about the legality of the county headquarters transfer and the creation of Wau municipality.
