Residents in the capital of Lakes State were called to start a general cleanup campaign to boost hygiene and sanitation in the town.

Rumbek Public Health Officer Taban Makuei told Good News Radio on Monday that people usually got ill due to poor hygiene and sanitation.

He appealed to residents to keep residential areas clean instead of waiting for organized campaigns to clean up the areas.

Mr Makuei noted that when someone takes the initiative to clean his or her own place, then that person does not have to worry about some dangerous insects or diseases.

Lakes State was well ranked on hygiene and sanitation, but now the situation seems to be worsening in Rumbek.
