Sudan’s foreign minister announced on Saturday that the country’s president will soon visit South Sudan to step up bilateral relations between the two countries.
Minister Ali Karti said President Omer Hassan Al-Bashir’s visit to Juba will open a new page in the development of bilateral relations between the two neighbours, state official agency reported. He did not disclose the date of the visit.
Reports say it would coincide with the meeting of a joint committee to discuss the implementation of security arrangements during the first week of November.
President Bashir cancelled a visit to Juba last April following the seizure of Hegilig by the South Sudanese army, the move the almost brought the two countries to an all out war.
Last week, Vice President Riek Machar Teny met with the International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda in Nairobi to consult her over Mr Bashir’s visit to Juba.
