SPLA-N fighters reported Thursday morning that they had captured Umshurean and Alhimir on Tuesday, two key areas South of Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan.

SPLM-N spokesperson Arnu Ngattulu Loddi confirmed the fighting and said ten government troops died in the clashes and a number were wounded.

He said two SPLA-N fighters were killed and ten sustained minor injuries.

Mr Ngattulu added that the SPLA-N destroyed one Government vehicle mounted with a machine gun.

He confirmed that the rebels seized a number of weapons.

Some of the SPLA-N fighters who took part in the clashes said they were optimistic they would win the uprising.

They added that the struggle should continue to bring down Al Bashir’s regime in Khartoum.

Fighting in South Kordofan has intensified this month with the dry season onset which allows free movement of vehicles.
