Delegations representing the Sudanese Government and the Justice and Equality Movement have signed a declaration affirming their commitment to the ongoing peace process.

The talks included immediate cessation of hostilities and the resumption of negotiations in order to achieve a comprehensive settlement of the conflict, UN News Centre reported.

United Nations-African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur Chief A•chatou S. Mindaoudou issued a statement saying that the two parties agreed on a timeframe to start talks after the Muslim religious holiday of Eid Al-Adha.

The statement called upon the other non-signatory movements to join the peace process to alleviating the suffering of the population and restore peace to all parts of Darfur.
