The new harvest is bringing down food stuff prices at Kauda Market in Nuba Mountains.

A few months ago prices were extremely high due to the intensified hunger that hit the entire region.

Kauda Trade Union Deputy Chairman Abass Anur said commodities like sorghum, groundnuts, sim-sim and maize were much cheaper now.

He explained that one “malwa” of sorghum fell from 35 Pounds last month to 20 and the same measure of groundnuts dropped from 15 to 10 Pounds.

Mr. Anur said imported goods, including sugar, salt and cooking oil, remained expensive due to rains and insecurity.

The trade union leader remarked that as the rains stopped prices of commodities should reduce.

Nuba Mountains’ muddy roads and war insecurity are the main cause for high inflation in the area.
