The southern Sudan Political Party Council (PPC) was officially launched today by Thabo Mbeki, chairperson of the African Union high level implementation panel for Sudan.
The PPC is a recommendation from the electoral code of conduct signed by political parties on the second of March this year.Addressing the press, Sandra Bona Malual, PPC chairperson, outlined the major objectives during the period of elections.
GoSS vice president Riek Machar said the launch shows the government’s commitment to ensure free and fair elections in the region.
Mr. Mbeki in his speech said the political parties signed the code of conduct and committed themselves to all articles in the document.
Ensuring free, fair and inclusive elections is among the commitments.
The former president of South Africa called upon party members to work towards these pledges.
