Western Bahr El Ghazal farmers urged the Government to assist them with seeds and open feeder roads in order to market their products.

The farmers voiced this on Tuesday during the Agricultural Trade Fair held at Wau Cultural Theatre to mark World Food Day, Voice of Hope reported.

They said many roads leading to cultivation areas are inaccessible and do not allow the stock of local markets.

Lucia Remijo, from Ngolingbog boma of Wau County, said she produced a variety of crops but couldn’t take the produce to the market due to the poor roads.

She complained she spent a lot of money on boda-boda to bring her goods to the market.

Abdul Hafiz Mohamed Alhaj explained that his farm produces fruits but he needs quality seeds and insecticides.

He asked the Ministry of Agriculture to provide farmers with better seeds.

Joseph Liza, Manager of Kuru Bee Keeping Company in Wau, called on fellow farmers to use modern methods to harvest honey without killing bees and damaging the trees with the beehives.

Western Bahr El-Ghazal registered a bump groundnuts harvest although maize and sorghum did not produce much this year.
