The media and security forces in south Sudan are mending ways of cooperation to ensure the press effective elections coverage.
This comes after several accusations by the media of harassment and denial of access to public events by security personnel. The latter accuses of false reporting.The effort towards cooperation is done through a dialogue between the two organizations.
Talking to SCR News, Col. Malaak Ayuen Ajok, head of SPLA information, said tackling media complaints would mend relationships between the press and the forces.
Moiga Korokoto Nduru, director of the South Sudan news agency, said constant dialogue between the security and the media is the best way to prevent the two groups from confronting each other.
Mr. Korokoto added that recommendations raised in the two-day workshop between security and media must be fully implemented.
Canal Malaang informed participants that SPLA officials are already in the field to educate soldiers on the role of the media.
Mr. Malaang called upon all security officials to refrain from harassing the press.
The media representatives in return promised to abide by the journalists code of conduct.
