South Sudan has only 25 percent of the population that has access to health facilities.

Malaria Control Programme Manager, Harriet Akello Pasquale said the country has low level of the population that can access health centres.

She said South Sudanese have misconception that some malaria drugs are not good for malarial treatment in pregnancy.

Dr Akello said South Sudan is also lacking laboratory quality assurance systems and the clinicians do not comply with the microscopic results for malaria treatment.

She disclosed that South Sudan has inappropriate treatment practices especially in the private health facilities.

Dr Akello was presenting a paper on Malaria treatment in a three day conference on Malaria Vector Control on Monday in Juba.

The conference under the theme: “Sustain gains, save lives: Invest in malaria”, drew together over 100 medical personnel from national and states Ministries of Health.
