Catholic Bishops in Sudan will push for more justice, peace, reconciliation and good governance.

Bishop Rudolf Deng Majak of Wau told SCR News that the bishops made the pledge in Rome after meeting Pope Benedict at the end of their official visit to the Vatican.

Bishop Deng, who is the president of the Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference, informed the Pope about the current situation in Sudan.

Besides discussing the elections, Pope Benedict emphasized that negotiations in Darfur should prevail to build a lasting peace for its people.

The Sudanese bishops also discussed the lack of church personnel to take care of the huge population spread over a vast area.

Pastoral workers abandon their commitment to the gospel due to lack of resources and try to improve their living conditions elsewhere.

The bishops were called to draw up a plan to find more missionaries to come to Sudan.

They should also organize ongoing formation for religious personnel.
